McHugh Completes 9th Trip To Iraq, Says Conditions Are Improving

North country Congressman John McHugh just finished up a two day visit with Fort Drum soldiers serving in Iraq.

On Thursday afternoon, the Republican lawmaker spoke with 7 News by phone from Kuwait.

In his 9th trip to Iraq, McHugh says the most noticeable change in that country is the improvement in security.

Christina M. Chevrier of 123 Belmont Courts was charged with a felony count of attempted grand larceny.

Bail Set At $50K For Accused Slasher

A 20 year old Massena man is being held on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond after allegedly slashing the back of his girlfriend during an argument.

Adam Gauthier is charged with with second-degree assault after allegedly cutting Brandee Arquiett inside an apartment house at 61 Bishop Avenue.

Insanity Defense Sought For Klages

A Massena man facing attempted murder charges for allegedly torturing and mutilating 51 year old Andrew Lesperance will now face a mental evaluation as his attorney prepares to use an insanity defense.

St. Lawrence County Public Defender Brian Pilatzke has filed a two page motion seeking court permission to use an insanity defense for 26 year old Harry Klages II.

SPCA Building Dog Park

The city of Watertown said no to the idea, so someone else will be providing dogs with a new place to play in Watertown.

The Jefferson County SPCA is building a dog park in its backyard.

A Watertown man is taking on a very big job; in fact, it’s literally the biggest job he has ever had.

Jason Brown is an artist who is painting a mural on the side wall of Empsall Plaza in downtown Watertown.

A roll call vote was taken yesterday at the Democratic Convention to confirm Senator Barack Obama had all the delegates he needed to win the nomination.

As New York Senator Hillary Clinton declared the state’s support for Obama, a North Country native stood by her side and witnessed what she called history in the making.
